Nanophony is een interdisciplinair project van beeldend kunstenaar Marie van Vollenhoven voor Jazz Maastricht en Intro in Situ. In de  naam Nanophony klinkt fascinatie door voor de wetenschap van de nanotechnologie, die met microscopisch kleine deeltjes bezig is volkomen nieuwe stoffen te componeren , die de natuur nooit verzonnen heeft.
‘We hebben ook een kunstzinnig laboratorium nodig. We willen uitdrukking geven aan de nieuwste maatschappelijke en wetenschappelijke ontwikkelingen waar we deel van uitmaken en die ons leven diepgaand zullen beïnvloeden.’ Uit laboratoria overal ter wereld, ook in Maastricht, wordt gewerkt aan een nieuwe natuur. Als nanogaren voor onverslijtbare sokken of als aritficieel vlees op je bord waar geen koe aan te pas hoeft te komen. In de reageerbuisjes van het lab ontstaat het dagelijks leven van morgen.
Voor dit project heeft Marie een gezelschap zeer getalenteerde jonge musici en zangers om zich heen verzameld. ‘Samen hebben we ons laten inspireren door het LAB gevoel en de fascinerende aantrekkingskracht van de wetenschap . Ieder heeft gecomponeerd in eigen stijl, mede daardoor is dit een heel veelzijdige Nanophony geworden.’

Nanophony is an interdisciplinary musical and visual art project by the Dutch artist Marie van Vollenhoven for Jazz Maastricht and Intro in Situ. The title refers to the fascination with Nanotechnology, the science of combining ultra small particles into completely new, sometimes even organic materials that Nature itself could never have thought of.
‘What we need is a laboratory,’ she thought immediately, when asked to create this performance, ‘if we want to give expression to the latest social and scientific developments that are shaping our present and future ways of living.’ In science labs in Maastricht and all over the world a new nature is emerging, if it be in the shape of everlasting fibers for our socks or as artificial meat on our plates. In the test tubes of today our daily life of the future is created.’
For this project Marie gathered around her a group of very talented young musicians and vocal artists. ‘Together we give voice to our combined “LAB feeling” and our deep interest in the influence of modern science. Each of us contributed his or her own voice to this colourful Nanophony’
