musste in seinem Leben nur einmal an Krücken gehen. Abgesehen davon, dass er mit einem nutzlosen Fuss umgehen musste, mochte er es irgendwie. Seinen Blick auf die Stadt und ihren Verkehr hat sich geändert: Alles war für ihn langsamer. Ein kontinuierlicher Fluss des Lebens, der in seine Stadt gekommen war. Es fühlte sich friedlich an. Rinus bewegte sich in einem Tempo von etwa 176,4 Meter pro Stunde vorwärts. Die Erde dreht sich etwa zehntausend mal schneller. Rinus van Alebeek arbeitet mit Magnet-Tapes, die er in dieser gemütlichen Geschwindigkeit über den Tonkopf gleiten lässt. Für seine Performance zeichnet er eigentümliche Klänge auf. Je nach Beschaffenheit und Zustand der Abspielgeräte verändert sich der Klang der Aufnahmen. Intuitiv hören wir andere Geräusche, assoziieren wir die Sounds mit eigenen Bildern im Kopf und tauchen in die kreisenden Bewegungen der Bänder ein. Bei soviel Liebe zum Magnetband erstaunt es einen nicht, dass Rinus auch das legendäre Tape-Label Staaltape betreibt.

Liquid Land >> Ein sehr besonderer FiLM. Am 13.1.2013 spiele ich dazu meine neue Blippoo Box und sicherlich kommt noch was besonderes Trashiges und improvisiertes dazu, komplett im KK-Stil.

Die letzte Monate vom Güterbahnhof werden voller Action sein.
Das ist schonmal ein besonderes Konzert. Ich hab hier ein kleiner Ausschnitt:

Gestern war ein wunderbarer 3-königlicher Anfang von 2013. Mit dem Workshop im ZKM ging es los. Mit dem Projekt Klang_Bau_Stelle haben wir die Besucher eingeladen die Eingangshalle des ZKM^s zu untersuchen und die Klänge mit Hilfsmittel zu entlocken. Es war eine Freude die Teilnehmer mit auf Klangreise zu nehmen. Mit der Feedback Schaltung und Schläger wie auch mit den Superballs ist es uns gelungen 25min Klangmaterial zu sammeln und das Gebäude an sich an zu regen. Gerade David Tudor experimentierte schon mit den Feedback der Dinge und liess TeilnehmerInnen in seinen Workshop feedback erzeugen an hängende Objekte.

Beste Vrienden van de Stichting de 4 Koningen,

Voor een enkeling is de vakantie al begonnen en voor een enkeling alweer voorbij, in het laatste geval begint het nieuwe seizoen van ARM dan helemaal op tijd. We hebben iets te vieren want onze eerste Artist in Recidency zit er bijna op en zal zoals beloofd met een tentoonstelling in het Old hickory plein afgesloten worden. Lucia von Rhein laat zien wat een onderzoek en een oponthoud van 2 maanden in Maastricht zoal met iemands artistieke weergave doet. Een uitwisseling van taal en tekens is ons als AIRM team goed bevallen. Intensief werd er samengewerkt en dat kan worden bewondert a.s. zaterdag om 19 uur en dit wordt ook nog eens omlijst door andere artiesten.

The Luminale in Frankfurt is unfortunately over however it was a full succes. If I see the pictures with people waiting up to 2 hours to see what is in, i feel gratitute. The installation is designed by the FH Mainz (interior Design Master) and the HfM Mainz (Music) where I’m graduating for a master in Soundart and Composition. The Objects in the boat sound all differently. Accompanied by a drone composition the installation is experiencable as a hugh string instrument that lights up and reflects the intensity of your impuls towards the strings. The video gives a good representation of the objects and the Interaction mode as the umbrella mode. Press for more info hier/here

Die Luminale ist vorbei. In der Nacht der Museen in Frankfurt am Main am 21.4. sind die letzte Zuschauer von dem Cassian Carl herunter gekommen. Wir aber sind noch immer gut drauf und schauen wie wir die öffentlichkeit noch weiter mit dem Projekt begeistern können. Sowohl die Luminale als auch die Nacht der Museen hat uns viel Aufmerksamkeit gebracht.

In de  naam Nanophony klinkt fascinatie door voor de wetenschap van de nanotechnologie, die met microscopisch kleine deeltjes bezig is volkomen nieuwe stoffen te componeren , die de natuur nooit verzonnen heeft.

Aus einer Vorauswahl aus sieben Beitraegen wurden die besten drei am Mittwoch, den 14.12.2011 in den Raeumen der Musikhochschule in Aachen gekuert.
Am Mittwochabend 14.12.2011 wurden die besten sieben Einsendungen einer interdisziplinaeren Jury und geladenen Gaesten aus Forschung, Industrie und Wirtschaft im neuen Konzertsaal der Musikhochschule in Aachen praesentiert. Graag zou ik met dit beeld mijn dank uitspreken voor de tijd vol met verrassende kunst die we al hebben mogen weten waar te maken. Ook in 2012 gaan we hier lekker mee door. Ondanks de geringere erkenning en respect van de regering en overheid willen we kunst en cultuur iedere keer weer actualiseren en hebben daarvoor nog meer vriendinnen en vrienden nodig die ons ondersteunen met kleine en grote geste.

Not only are the DJ’s from Quartier Mustache on the spot, also alessandro mezzogori and me are going to let the movie live in another era! If you find time to see this, i’m sure you will have a night full of fantasy and maybe you become a little baron afterwards.

THE RIGA 2014 LIGHT THINK TANK

The Riga 2014 Light Think Tank is a cause driven Interdisciplinary think tank researching urban architectural tensions in Riga and working on experimental solutions using light related technologies.
Participants of The Riga 2014 Light Think Tank will be a international team of designers, marketers, conceptual artists and students from anthropology, computer science, economics, architecture, philosophy, multi media communication, sound production and visual communication.

I went shopping with the Beggar Robot. See the interview with Clark Boyd about it. The Robot build of recycled material is now on display in the entrance of the musee d’histoire de la ville de Luxembourg. During the exhibition “Pauvre Luxembourg” (till 29/4/2011) it is begging for a couple non-profit organisation to help out the materially deprived.

It is true, my instruments are visible and usable in the DIY exhibition in the museum for Kommunikation in Frankfurt.
(DIY die mitmach revolution) They will be there till the 19th of februari and then they will lift of to Berlin’s museum of kommunikation. However when their back in my home, i will play them again. Sofar i’ve been enjoying makeing new instruments. I;ve been invited by prof Verena Kuni who is a specialist for all related DIY cultures. In this exhibition I don;t feel doubting about the purpose of my “inventions” they seem to fit perfectly in.

Time for another waiting in the wings. The third WITW was @ Waldengallery and was the first one after the ARM (artspace rondeel maastricht) abroad. Maja defenitely exported this performancepark very succesfully to the Gallery Walden in Berlin. Hope we do it again before 2013.

This is the first ARM concert as in Art Research Music. The concert/composition was based on the influence of noise and its singularity in form of a drop. Colours became sound in the openingsconcert of the SPEKTRALE. Have a look/listen at the Rheingoldhalle Mainz. A very special exhibition full of scientific experiments and ART on the edge of science. I’m very proud to be able to be part of this concert. Not only is Alvin Curran a star that i’ve been luckily enough to get to know a little better, also Christina Kubisch is playing in this concert! Der klangvolle Titel der zweitägigen Kunstchilbi im Chäslager hat seinen Ursprung im Berlin der 1870er Jahre; Wer als Künstler nicht etabliert war und durch die Provinz ‘tingelte’, wurde abschätzig in die Schublade der wandernen Kleinkunst – des Tingel Tangels – geworfen. Im danach benannten Festival steht der Begriff für die unterschiedlich betitelten Amusement Kreise der Unterhaltungskultur des späten 19. Jahrhunderts. Das Festival vereint populäre- und bildende Kunst in einer spartenüberbordenden Zusammenstellung verschiedenster künstlerischer Positionen. Das straffe Bühnenprogramm wird nebst längeren Produktionen in kurze Showblöcke gegliedert, in welchen bizarre Darbietungen skurrilster Art zu sehen sind; Exotisch, akrobatisch, grotesk: Für jeden ist etwas dabei! Hereinspaziert und Manege frei!

During the “Pauvre Luxembourg” exhibition in the Museum of History you can find my self-made copy of the Saso Sedlacek idea of the beggar robot 1.0. You can see it live and begging till next year March for many good causes in Luxembourg as in India.
During the opening people already were fond of the machine and it begged already some 30 euro’s in a little time.

finally after installing a lot of cables speakers and sound-technology, we’ve been able to set the Soundinstallation up. The project from Prof. Kiefer and the HfM in Mainz is already a succes before the start. Opening is this friday, but the installation will be in progress until 15 th of october. Also Florian Dombois installed his hornitos (small erruptive vulcanic ovens) that sound like a burst is not far away. Alvin Curran and Tilman Küntzel will also participate. My work consists a kite that is hanging in the Tree like if it is left behind by a child that was playing. Now it hangs there waiting for the winds to play the strings. See more info here:

In het project ‘Art Verde’ (Groene Kunst) willen we met drie kunstwerken, gemaakt van afvalmateriaal, het thema duurzaamheid bij stadsjongeren onder de aandacht brengen. Onder leiding van Kaspar König, een kunstenaar dierecycling en hergebruik in zijn bloed heeft, zijn 3 van onze studenten aan de slag gegaan met afvalmateriaal, plastics en oud speelgoed. Wij willen jullie graag uitnodigen voor de opening van de “On the Wing” tentoonstelling. 5^e December verzorgen Harold Schellinx, Rod Summers en Kaspar König een middag à la surprise. Het spektakel begint om 15u in het Brandweer Capucijnenstraat 21, 6211 RN Maastricht «On the Wing» is een tentoonstelling gebaseerd op «Waiting in the Wings» 2009.Het is een poging om een vergankelijke kunstvorm in een duurzame stoffelijke vorm over te dragen. De tentoonstelling is dan ook niet als een documentatie van het performance-festival bedoeld, maar als een autonoom «kunst-stuk», een installatie met een begin en een eind. De relicten van de performances creëren samen met video- en sound-documenten nieuwe verhalen, en vergroeien op deze manier tot een inloopinstallatie. De bezoekers zijn fysiek betrokken en verbonden met het decor. On the Wing is een toneelachtige, toegankelijke tentoonstelling met een veranderlijke, wandelende inborst. Whenever something moves, it’s very likely to have a sound due to the movement. Friction, resistance etc. are the power of sound. In this case I wanted to put it into a painting. Something to put on the wall and be reminded of the sincere expression of this movement. That is why i engineered the first series of sound paintings. It’s a start and as a matter of fact I would love to impose all settings and scenes of kinetic energy
on the wall.

we’ve been working on great projects within the timelab in Gent. This video shows how I finished lasercutting my add-ons for traffic signs or other public design. I made two hooks with a precise fit for hooking up a string, which I can tension whenever I want. There is a bridge in the middle of the string, so the whole urinoir starts to become sound!

new stories from the upcoming world-power candidate or the peoples republic as you want. The story starts immediately at the airport where I found myself with 2 new experiences. First of all the Customs officer has a new machine in front of his desk. During the Passport check the machine starts to blink and asks you the question, “are you satisfied with this service?” 4 buttons I was offered to push during the check and since I hardly had to wait in front of the desk, my choice was sincere and I pressed the outer right button saying: I’m satisfied. When I was making the blackbox at the kombinat > automaten workshop, i started with a old bontempi keyboard. Next to that I found a great designed Uetz suitcase, a classical storage system in Switzerland. In a moment I took off basicly all the mainpart of the keyboard like the keys, but I only left the volume and beat/accomp mix where it was.

Now I got a box that really interests me, cause it sounds everytime quit different, so it suprises over and over. Great for the concerts.

During the 10 x10 -> 11 days in cabaret voltaire I was able to make a bass that has a flexible body and a fixed foot where it can stand on. It sounds very deep and warm through the pick-up element from a guitar. The bass is made out of a bed slat base lying around in the magnusstreet in Zürich. Have a look at the picture.

also in the 10×10-> 11 dada days in cabaret voltaire, I was able to challenge the two guitars together and now they will always stay joined together for a special cause.

the classical side of the guitar sounds like an asian lute, more east.
the rockguitar sounds more like classic rock, more west.

try it out if you have to many guitars. It is a great deal of fun.

this frame looks sad but it is happy, it didn’t want to be a painting.

it just wanted to be a thing for on the wall.

Er is wéér een belangrijke stap gezet in de aanloop naar de Biënnale het ArtiParti event met als hoogtepunt de uitreiking van de Noortman APartPrize. Afgelopen maandag kwam de prejury bij elkaar om van de 245 (!) ingezonden werken er 36 te selecteren. We zullen je niet langer in spanning houden:

VAN HARTE GEFELICITEERD! De jury heeft jouw werk geselecteerd en daarmee ding jij dus mee naar de Noortman APartPrize.

Het object dat genomineerd is, is de stoel “OSLO” gemaakt uit duitse brandweerslang met witte ommanteling.

ein Sound-Cabaret

Kaspar König (ARTSPACE RONDEEL, Maastricht) und Simon Berz (BADABUM, Zürich) geben während 10 Tagen Einblick in ihren Arbeitsprozess. Im Zentrum ihrer Forschung steht dabei die Entdeckung neuer Klänge, die aus Alltagsgegenständen und Spielzeug gewonnen werden. Die Gegenstände, welche die Künstler untersuchen, stehen immer in einem sozialen und geographischen Kontext. In diesem Sinne benutzen Kaspar König und Simon Berz diese Objekte, um eine Klangarchäologie zu betreiben.
Es entstehen Klanglandschaften, welche beim Zuschauer Assoziationen hervorrufen und eine auditive Perspektive auf die gegenständliche Welt eröffnen.
Der Arbeitsprozess, den Kaspar König und Simon Berz den BesucherInnen im Cabaret Voltaire zugänglich machen, ist sammeln, konzipieren, realisieren, Übungsphase und Konzert in einem. Im Cabaret Voltaire werden die beiden Künstler die Möglichkeit ergreifen, ihre Arbeit als Sound-CABARET zu manifestieren. Sie schaffen Konzertsituationen, in welche Gäste und Publikum miteinbezogen werden können. So wird das Sound-CABARET zu einem Ort der Begegnung und nimmt damit Bezug auf die einstigen Gründer des Cabaret Voltaires.

Der Workshop «Animation – Circuitbend – Interaction – Laboratory» besteht aus zwei Teilen einem Animations und einem Circuitbending Teil.
Am Ende des Workshops steht eine Installation in der die entstandenen Animationssequenzen auf die gebauten Soundgeräte, die mit Lichtsensoren ausgestattet projiziert wird. Das Lichtsensor Orchester wird ab gemischt. Die Animationen allenfalls mit Live Schattenspiel verändert. Es entsteht eine Klangkulisse für die Animationen.

Im Soundteil von diesem Workshop werden wir Mikrochips
mittels des Circuitbend Prinzip verwerten. Wir bauen mit LDR’s die Chips in ihre Funktion um, damit sie auf licht reagieren. Somit reagieren sie auch auf Animationen….

Kaspar König and Simon Berz will display from 16th november till 25th of november, the mutual electronic circuitbended results. Their aim to concept, construct, practice and concert everyday a new instrument is based on their joy with the circuits and the musicality within and beyond them. The audience is invited to bring their mal-functioning electro-waste to the gallery and bend the circuits themselves.
The results will be day by day visible during these 10 days and
especially from 10 to 11h pm every night audible.

In my secondimpress 2 , the workshop sustainable design, the nightwatcher does got a friendly face, new FEbike and turtles dance!
So sometimes I think it is quite hopeless what I am doing… A sustainable / recycling workshop in the country where resources are utmost exploited. Whereas traditional chinese production has to do with sustainability in its purest form, recent wealth and economy-growth are known to be the reasons, as far as we see. I’m told that not even 20 years ago china was everywhere much much cleaner. But now even in the remote places, waste is being dumped basicly everywhere. So when I started my workshop in order to make awareness of the resources we throw away in our daily lifes, many “new” resources for our course where already available in close sight. And actually I started to make some paper to cardboard in different shapes. Also local industries are contacted to enrich our workshop. Many mis-printed KFC packaging is now being re-designed by fifteen very motivated students. I try to give you an impression of the first results. I hope the photos explain themselfs. “Waiting in the wings” is een poging om een onophoudende en levendige tentoonstelling
te maken die de horizon verlegt voor zowel bezoekers als ook voor de deelnemende kun-
stenaars. In de ruimte van de Artspace Rondeel zijn de juiste omstandigheden voor han-
den. Sterker nog, de hal lijkt wel gemaakt voor performative doeleinden, zoals
uiteenlopend van sing&songwriter tot Circus-sight-show.

PANDORAS BOX

An Opera with 8 children 7 artist 6 trashcontainers and 5 days to play the story of pandoras box. Every year in august, Simon Berz organizes a special event for the children of the “schlagzeugatelier”. This year was extra special. All participants took a very important role to imagine, fantasize, conduct, prepare and play a 50 minutes show in which we could manifest the moments and experiences pandora must have had when she opened the box she was not ment to open! Just to get a small impression of the little paradise we try to realize
close to the center of maastricht. A small garden is most recently
added. It used to be a roofing-company but since the beginning of
2007 we’re trying to change the whole complex into a livable,
environmental friendly, sustainable and luxurous transitional side,
with space for culture, arts, sound, design and much more semi-
public events like the performance park: waiting in the wings!
